Dr. Prudence Gourguechon is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst with over 35 years’ experience diagnosing and treating patients with mental illness and mental health issues including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders and personality disorders. A former President of the American Psychoanalytic Association and past Dean of the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute, she has served as an organizational leader and as a colleague, teacher and mentor to many in the Chicago area as well as nationally and internationally. Dr. Gourguechon’s current interest is using psychoanalytic and psychiatric concepts and thinking to address issues and problems in the community, outside the consulting room. She has written two books, one on the psychology of investing and a new book, soon to be available, on the psychology of leadership. In 2017 she developed a model of leadership based on psychoanalytic and psychological principles that identified five key traits and capacities every leader must have: empathy, trust, discipline, critical thinking and self-awareness. Prudy writes regularly for Forbes.com on the psychology of leadership and has written about #MeToo and leadership failure. She serves as an expert in litigation involving claims of psychological damage due to sexual assault, sexual harassment and discrimination.
